The economic promotion agency of the canton of Jura can look back with satisfaction at a successful 2021. The 26 companies supported by the agency invested 44.1 million Swiss francs in the region. Over the medium term, a further 181 new jobs are to be added to the 55 created in 2021, which represents an increase on previous years. For example, in 2020 a total of 33 companies invested a sum of 9.4 million Swiss francs with 36 new jobs created, which should lead to an overall total of 107 in time.

According to the annual report published by the cantonal economic promotion agency, eight of the 26 companies in 2021 were newly founded. These created 22 jobs, with a further 55 set to follow in due course. In total, 15 existing companies implemented expansion plans with the support of the economic promotion agency, leading to the creation of 18 new jobs, with a further 81 to follow eventually. At 36.0 million Swiss francs, they accounted for the largest share of investments. Three companies were relocated in cooperation with the regional investment and innovation promotion agency Basel Area Business & Innovation. These firms invested a total of 1.6 million Swiss francs and created 15 jobs, with 45 more to follow.

Settlement of French medtech firm Biosynex

The Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area also forms part of the regional innovation ecosystem. Overall, 13 companies with a total of 25 employees are now operating from its branch in Courroux, which was first opened in 2019.

The press conference was held at Biosynex Suisse SA. The Swiss subsidiary of the French medtech firm established a presence in the region in 2021 with the help of the Basel Area Business & Innovation.

According to Jacques Gerber, Head of the Directorate for Economic Affairs of the canton of Jura, the Jura economy has now put the crisis to bed. Nevertheless, some challenges remain, he explains in the annual report. For this reason, in the near future the cantonal government will be presenting a program for economic development over the next five years.
