The medtech sector in the Swiss canton of Jura is growing continuously. A new map from Basel Area Business & Innovation lists 67 companies, startups and other organizations across 24 municipalities. The sector is particularly well represented in Delémont and Courroux.

Among the 14 companies in the cantonal capital are startup companies such as 3D Precision and Galien Plus as well as traditional businesses including Humard Automation and Willemin-Macodel. In Courroux, the Jura site of the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area forms the core of the growing sector, which already comprises 17 companies, startups and institutions. Not only is the site home to a branch of the Centre Suisse d’électronique et de microtéchnique (CSEM), but also the startup accelerator DayOne Tech, which supports selected startups for 12 months. Four companies are based in Glovelier and Porrentruy, and three in Bassecourt and Courgenay.

Companies in the industry are increasingly networking. The third Medtech Congress, hosted by DayOne on 30 October at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area in Courroux, will support this trend. Visits to companies in the region are on the programme for the following day.

Three new startups for DayOne Tech accelerator

The DayOne Tech accelerator is already entering its fourth round. One of the participants, Altiscreen, is developing wearable devices for the rapid detection of recreative drugs. Amarastesia is working on components that can be used to open body cavities with the least possible after-effects for patients. Finally, OrthoSens is developing smart orthopaedic implants to provide surgeons with real-time data.

The canton of Jura is one of the sponsors of Basel Area Business & Innovation, alongside the two cantons of Basel. The investment and innovation promotion agency supports companies and startups in the region and is dedicated to attracting other companies to settle here.
